Chilean poultry industry saw impressive increase in 2012

Chile's not counting any chickens before they hatch: they know their poultry industry grew... by an impressive ten percent in 2012. The sector grew even more than did its counterparts in Brazil and Argentina, the continent's largest poultry exporters. Chile's Foundation for Agrarian Innovation (FIA) and the regional government of Aysen are offering development grants to to those who can increase competitiveness and profitability in the food and forestry industries in Aysen. Agricultural GDP growth expected to pick up in 2013

Luis Mayol, head of the National Agricultural Society representing farms in Chile, has predicted a future agricultural GDP growth of 4-5% in 2013, roughly in line with expected expansion of the economy. In 2011, growth was over 11%, but this slowed to just 1% in 2012 due to the effects of the drought in northern parts of Chile.
