Chile Corners Dried Fruit and Nut Market in South Korea
Aggressive Chilean export policies have proved effective in parts of Asia, according to new research stating that the South American country now dominates the Dried Fruit/Nut sector in South Korea.
Between 2008 and 2012, South Korea increased import and consumption in that arena by 165%, and much of the produce came from Chile. Chilean products entering the Korean market have an advantage over products from, say, the United States, in that they can forgo duty-free import fees.

Chilean figs could save the current fig season, now that the California market seems likely to falter this season. High winds and migrant worker timing issues are currently affecting this season's crop in the Sunshine State in the USA.

Famed Wine Critic Praises Three Chilean Carménères
What Malbec is to Argentina, Carménère is to Chile -- a formerly European wine grape, largely blotted off that continent's map by disease, which now flourishes in its new homeland.
And, back in Europe, critics are noticing. Carménère, the former star of Bordeaux has become Chile's signature grape, with intensely vegetal notes that remind one of green pepper and go beautifully with meats, salami, and cheeses.
(Note to farmers: grape production continues to ramp up in the South American country.)

Chilean banana peels can help clean polluted waters
The research group Cena / USP (Center for Nuclear Energy in Agriculture claims that banana peels might be a powerful filter for water contaminated with the devastating pesticides/herbicides atrazine and ametrine (used extensively in corn and sugar cane farms).
